3-round logic challenge

✓ Question 12: Thursday

Round 3 of 3 · Question 3 of 580% complete

A brick weighs 1 kg plus half a brick. How much does the whole brick weigh?

Why, in question 12: Yesterday was Monday. What day will it be the day after tomorrow?

The answer is Thursday. If yesterday was Monday, today is Tuesday. Tomorrow will be Wednesday, and the day after tomorrow, Thursday.

Counting days without getting lost

The most common mistake is counting from Monday, the day mentioned in the question, instead of from today. So the first step is always to work out what day today is.

A timeline helps: write yesterday, today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow side by side, and fill in the days of the week in order.

For larger calculations, use the cycle of 7. In 7, 14 or 70 days, the day of the week is always the same as today, so you just look at the remainder after dividing by 7.

So if today is Tuesday, in 10 days it will be Friday: 7 days bring you back to Tuesday, and 3 more get you to Friday.

The calculation also works backwards. If today is Tuesday, 10 days ago was a Saturday: going back 7 days lands on the previous Tuesday, and going back 3 more gets you to Saturday.
