3-round logic challenge

✓ Question 7: the downward arrow

Round 2 of 3 · Question 3 of 547% complete

How many sides will the next one have?

?

Why, in question 7: Where does the next arrow go?

The answer is the downward arrow. With each frame, the arrow turns one eighth of a turn clockwise: up, diagonally to the right, right, diagonally down, and then down.

Rotations of a figure

A full turn has 360 degrees. Divided into eight equal steps, each step is 45 degrees, which is exactly the rotation of this arrow from one frame to the next.

The eight directions are the same as on a compass rose: north, northeast, east, southeast, south, southwest, west, and northwest. This question's arrow covered the first five.

In rotation puzzles, it's worth checking two details: the size of the step and the direction, clockwise or counterclockwise. An arrow turning the opposite way would have pointed to the opposite side.

If the sequence continued, after four more steps the arrow would point up again, completing a full turn.

A clock helps visualize it: from 12 to 3, the hand moves a quarter of a turn, that is, two steps of 45 degrees.
