Human body quiz: 10 questions

Question 6: the correct answer is 32. Did you get it right? Score 1 point.

Question 7 of 10

Which vitamin does the body produce when the skin receives sunlight?

Why, in question 6: How many teeth does an adult with a complete set of teeth have?

The answer is 32, counting the four wisdom teeth. Many people have fewer, because the wisdom teeth never come in or are removed, and then the count is 28. Children have 20 baby teeth.

The hardest material in the body

Enamel, the layer covering the teeth, is the hardest tissue in the human body. It is made almost entirely of minerals and has no living cells, so it does not regenerate once worn down.

Each type of tooth has a function: incisors cut, canines tear, and premolars and molars grind. The shape of each one matches the job it does.

Baby teeth begin forming during pregnancy and usually appear from about 6 months of age. Permanent teeth gradually replace the baby teeth starting at around age 6.

Wisdom teeth are the last to come in, generally between ages 17 and 25, and often there is not enough room for them to grow properly. One explanation is that the human jaw became smaller over the course of evolution.
