Question 1 of 10
Which planet is known as the Red Planet?
How this quiz works
Here are 10 questions about space, from the easiest to the hardest. Choose an answer to move on: the correct answer appears at the top of the next page, followed by the explanation.
Count the points yourself, 1 for each correct answer, and see on the last page which range your round fell into. There is nothing to fill in or install.
The questions cover the planets of the Solar System, the Moon, the Sun, and the history of space exploration.
Choose carefully: some wrong options are common traps, such as confusing the planet closest to the Sun with the hottest one.
A sky that changes with science
Much of what we know about space is recent. Just a few decades ago, no one had seen Pluto's surface up close, and the number of known moons of several planets has changed quite a bit in recent years, thanks to more powerful telescopes.
That is why some answers in this quiz include the date of the information. When science discovers something new, the figures get updated.
And much is still to be discovered: new telescopes, such as the James Webb, launched in 2021, observe galaxies that formed shortly after the beginning of the Universe.
