Question 1 of 10
What is the largest animal alive on the planet today?
How this quiz works
There are 10 questions about animals, from the easiest to the hardest. Choose an answer to continue: the correct answer appears at the top of the next page, and the explanation comes right below.
Count the points yourself, 1 for each correct answer, and see on the last page which range your round fell into. There is nothing to fill in or install.
The questions mix animal kingdom records, such as the largest and the fastest, with the ways animals are classified: what makes an animal a mammal, a bird or an insect. Some of the answers surprise even people who love the subject.
Good luck, and watch out for tricks: some options look right at first glance.
A world of species
Scientists have already described about 1.5 million animal species, and most of them are insects. Estimates suggest that millions of species are still waiting to be discovered, especially in tropical forests and on the deep sea floor.
Brazil is among the countries with the most species in the world, with biomes as different as the Amazon, the Pantanal, the Cerrado, the Caatinga, the Atlantic Forest and the Pampa.
And many animals still hold mysteries. The place where European eels reproduce, in the Sargasso Sea, was only identified in the 20th century, and to this day no one has ever seen their spawning in the wild.
